In Kyaukse, Myanmar, Be Meh Kyauk Phyar (ေဘးမဲ့ေက်ာက္ဖ်ာ), or “the Rock that is Free of Danger,” has quite a story behind it. Once, while during a morning alms rounds, Webu Sayadaw accidentally sprung an animal trap, which closed on his foot. Because of Vinaya rules, Webu did not feel that he could free himself by destroying the trap, so he patiently waited until the hunter returned. When he finally showed up, Webu Sayadaw did not indicate his trapped foot, and the hunter became deeply ashamed when he noticed it, rushed over to release the venerable monk. From that day forward, the hunter swore he would never take the life of another animal. The diorama exhibit inside depicts the hunter setting down his bow and paying respects to Webu Sayadaw.

Ashin Sarana:The only thing that comes to my mind relates to breaking/destroying possession of others. But I suspect that the trap could be opened without destroying it. The rule I talk about is a sub-rule of second parajika (about stealing). Breaking others' possession (i.e. not stealing) would be the condition for dukkata ("wrong-doing"), the class of littlest offences. The design of the trap and the impossibility of it's disassembly without destruction should be then at least mentioned

Bhikkhu Agga:I'm still not so sure whether ven. Webu sayadaw stayed inside the trap because of viniya rules. That might be the explanation which is easy to accept, I do think the ven. Webu sayadaw had such powers of mind that he saw that by staying in the trap the hunter would learn a much more valuable lesson than if the sayadaw would have freed himself, so that our of compassion he stayed a little longer in the trap (also knowing that the hunter would come by. If he knew that the hunter wouldn't return, I do belief he would have freed himself to make sure he didn't die unnecessarily)

Naing Htun:So far I understand why Webu Sayadaw didn't open and relief himself is when he sprung in trap he became a prey of hunter that why he didn't open trap. Maybe my understanding is wrong but I hard such kind of true story from different venerable Sayadaw's who are very much on Viniya.
